2025 marks the 35th anniversary of South County Habitat for Humanity. This year, we are taking a moment to reflect on the incredible milestones we have reached and to celebrate those who have supported us along the way. Learn more about our history below.

Milestones of the past 35 years

Groundbreaking of our very first home, built in Narragansett. Pictured on the left is affiliate founder, the late and remarkable Ted Seymour (left) along with other affiliate founders.

Affiliate founder, Ted Seymour, is named the first Executive Director of the SCHH.

SCHH built a float and took part in the Fireman parade.

The group "Pier Pressure" hosted the first major fundraiser for Habitat at the Ocean Mist.

SCHH Hosts the first home dedication ceremony for the first home built in Narragansett.

SCHH relocates and renovates two homes in North Kingstown.

SCHH hosts the first Blitz Build for a home in Charlestown.

SCHH celebrates completion of the 10th home, located in North Kingstown.

The SCHH Women's Crew builds a home in Kingston.

SCHH began renovation on 3 units in North Kingstown - the first major renovation project!

Construction started on "Broad Rock Acres," our first subdivision including one rehabilitated home and four new construction.

The 20th home is built and dedicated, located in Charlestown.

The Bancroft family display a plaque and cake in honor of SCHH's 10th anniversary.

Launched the "House that Senate Built" campaign.

Groundbreaking ceremony for the Operations Center and ReStore in Charlestown

The 30th SCHH home is built in Charlestown.

Lou Raymond becomes the 2nd Executive Director of SCHH.

The "Hope Rebuilders" program was established - assisting qualifying homeowners with home repairs they could not otherwise afford.

The first of several "Breakfast with Habitat" fundraisers was held to solicit multi-year pledges. The total pledged was more than $140,000.

The Women's Crew was formed by Debbie McLister and Christine Fitzpatrick.

Wall-raising ceremony for a duplex in Westerly

The Operations Center and ReStore in Charlestown open for business

George Issa and Dan Marantz host the first yard sale, the beginnings of our ReStore. This raised more than $19,000 which was used to help finish the Operations Center.

Wall-raising ceremony is hosted for the first Faith Build home in Charlestown.

With a generous donation from Wakefield Rotary Club the ReStore purchased a donation pickup truck!

SCHH marches in the Memorial Day parade, celebrating 20 years of service!

Groundbreaking ceremony at Old North Village in Kingston

Home for a Hero groundbreaking ceremony is hosted in Kingston.

The 50th home is built

Women Constructing Hope home is built in Kingston in 2015 by all female volunteers.

The "Women Constructing Hope" program was launched - an all female built home, including primarily female construction volunteers and female subcontractor.

URI Greek Life raises over $100,000 for Old North Village project

Colin Penney becomes the third Executive Director of SCHH.

U.S. Senator Reed visits volunteers at the construction site.

Groundbreaking ceremony for a home in South Kingstown.

Work begins on the seven home Cardinal Lane development in Hopkinton. These homes were the first net zero energy homes built by SCHH!

Dedication is held for the first three homes on Cardinal Lane - welcoming the new families home!

The 60th South County Habitat for Humanity home was completed in Hopkinton!
